Nowadays many people buy fashion and other items based on brands and brand names, and diamond sellers have sometimes tried to use this approach to increase the sale prices of their diamonds. Essentially however this is a trick, because in the case of diamonds, brand is almost completely unrelated to value.
A brand is simply a name associated with the diamond - it might indicate where the diamond was mined, or the name of the current owner, or the name of a jeweller who was responsible for cutting the diamond - but it tells you little, if anything, about the diamond's value.
All diamonds are a crystalline form of the element carbon, sometimes with traces of other elements that add color. The value of the diamond derives from its weight (in carats), color, clarity, and cut - the four C's of diamonds. In a few rare cases, mostly a handful of famous diamonds, associations with historical stories or celebrities may enhance the diamond's value. But in nearly all cases for diamonds, especially ones that aren't famous, brand means very little.
